‘Downton Abbey’ season 3: A surprising admission

We’ve heard a number of surprising stories over the years when it comes to “Downton Abbey,” but even with that in mind, this may somehow still rank high on the list when it comes to the biggest stunners.

So what are we talking about here? In a new interview with Metro, comedian David Mitchell admitted that he is still interested in a part on the ITV drama series despite making some rather harsh comments about the believability of both its story and the characters:

“Not that I’ve noticed. Maybe people slagged me off and I haven’t been Googling myself assiduously enough. … I think it’s terribly written but still enjoy watching it and I don’t know why. I’ll watch and think, ‘No-one would say that, why’s that happening?’ Maybe the enjoyment of the sets and costumes is enough to sustain it.

“I’d love a part in it, but I’ve probably shot myself in the foot there.”

Strange comments, no? What’s not strange at all to us, though, is why there is so much interest in Mitchell’s part about taking on a role. After all, “Downton Abbey” is not only one of the most-watched series in Britain, but it is the rare import that also caters to a large audience in both America and around the world. It has already helped the careers of such people as Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern, and attracted even a legend in Shirley MacLaine to appear on the show this season.

Do you really consider “Downton Abbey” at the moment to be a show that everyone is interested in appearing on? Be sure to share some more of your thoughts below!
