Now that we’re on the other side of the RuPaul’s Drag Race finale, it feels like the right time to start to look a little bit towards the future.
To be specific, let’s go ahead and pose this question: Are we going to get another batch of episodes? Or, are we going to see this series sent out to pasture? Could it actually be canceled?
Well, let’s put an end to that — this show isn’t going anywhere. It’s far too hard to imagine that being the case. while there is no official season 12 renewal as of yet for the series on VH1, we know that there’s already been some casting for the next new batch of episodes. Beyond just that, we know that this is one of the most commercially-successful series that the network has. It constantly trends on Twitter during new episodes, it has a dedicated legion of fans, and we feel like there would be revolts if it ever went anyway. Remember that there’s also an All-Stars spin-off here, and you don’t create that for a show unless you know that the original one is successful.
We imagine that news on a RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12 will officially arrive over the coming weeks and on the other side of that, we’ll start to have a little bit more insight when it comes to a possible premiere window. Typically, new seasons of the show start airing in late winter/early spring, and we don’t really foresee there being too many changes this time around. If you love this series, why would you want to see the course altered all that much? The best thing that you can do is stay consistent … and not also oversaturate the brand. Sometimes, waiting does stink, but it’s probably better than the alternative of not getting any episodes at all because of burnout.
As for any finer changes that the series needs to make … well, do they need anything? From the casting of the Queens to the way the personalities are shown, this is a series that at this point, really seems to know a thing or two of what they’re doing. We think that once you get passed a season 10 of just about any series, you start to be at that point where you’ve really earned a certain degree of understanding — we’ll trust in you to deliver the best show possible, even if the winner for every season isn’t necessarily the one that we would choose.
RuPaul’s Drag Race will be back — don’t even worry about it. If you want to be concerned about anything, do it in terms of what you’re going to do within the span of time that the show is regrettably off the air. Rewatching some old episodes is always a possibility.
