America’s Got Talent season 14 video: Judges tease surprise Golden Buzzer

We know what you’re thinking with the title for this article — aren’t all America’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer moments surprises? In a way, yes, but some are more predictable than others. Take, for example, a kid singer with a difficult backstory. Not to be overly cynical, but this is an archetype that the judges tend to eat up. Meanwhile, you rarely see Golden Buzzers for acrobats, jugglers, daredevils, and acts within sort of obscure categories. We’ve seen this happen — Deadly Games is a great example from America’s Got Talent: The Champions — but it’s somewhat few and far between.

Yet, it does seem as though one judge will do something more than surprising with their buzzer this year, at least based on the new video below. This gives you a pretty immediate sense of some of the content coming your way for the 2019 season, whether it be the presence of judges Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough or Terry Crews taking over the role of host full-time. This is a totally new era for America’s Got Talent as a whole, and we hope that it’s one that is high-energy and offers something a little bit different.

We do think that, in some level, judges do set the tone somewhat for this show. For example, the Howard Stern era of AGT was really identified by a number of non-singers rising to the occasion — meanwhile, singers have taken a lot more prominence with Simon Cowell at the helm. While we don’t think that either Julianne or Gabrielle is going to get the same buzz as Simon, but they could prove to be important or VERY entertaining moving forward.

Once we get settled in when it comes to the new season of the show, we have a hard time imagining that there are going to be too many changes with the format the rest of the way. The Judge Cuts and auditions have a really good structure at the moment and because of that, we don’t think there is any reason for producers to shake things up all that much. The proof is in the pudding — or otherwise, the ratings for this series that certainly remain very much strong.
