NCIS: Los Angeles season 10 finale video: One final Mac tease

You can go ahead and call Sunday night’s NCIS: Los Angeles season 10 finale “Return of the Mac.” Catherine Bell is back in action and hopefully, she’s bringing with her all of the smarts and skills that she had for so many years on JAG. We of course also want to imagine that she’s bringing with her more of a relationship still with Harm, but we’re clearly not at the point just yet where we’ve got any clarity there. We’re worried … but we don’t want to read too much into a couple of sneak peeks without too much context.

Let’s shift now over to the sneak peek below from this upcoming episode — it’s not as noteworthy as the one featuring Mac and Harm’s reunion, but it’s still fun and a nice window into the relationship between Bell’s character and Hetty. They’ve clearly been friends a long time and have no problem being comfortable with one another. There’s a jovial tone to the scene in a lot of ways, and it really makes you wonder one key question above all others: Why haven’t we had a chance to see Mac on the show before? Obviously, a part of it just has to do with finding the proper way to get bell back on the show … but that’s just speaking from a creative sense. Logistically, shouldn’t Hetty have found a way to loop her in on something before now?

Well, the fact that Hetty hasn’t utilized Mac before now probably just speaks to how Hetty may be the most connected person in the entire world. She could have certainly used Mac at some point for a few missions, but she’s got such a vast network of smart, highly-skilled people. It’s all about finding the right person for the right mission at the right time. This is it for Mac and Hetty seems ready and rarin’ to go when it comes to having her assist in this case. It involves rooting out some terrorist sympathizers and we’re sure that it’s going to be intense. She and Hetty are going to work alongside Harm from afar, and try to make sure whatever they are planning doesn’t get too far out of hand. Saving lives under any circumstance is priority #1, #2, and #2000 here. There’s nothing else in between.

Will this be the last we see Mac and Harm?

That’s going to be up to the minds of the writers and producers to figure out. We know that creatively, there’s going to be at least some appeal in bringing them back for more if the schedules allow … and there could be appeal in a new JAG altogether. That idea is still out there in our head, but there wasn’t any huge news about it from upfront week. With that, this isn’t something that’s going to probably happen over the next year or so at least. Patience is going to have to be a virtue here if anything more comes of this.
