Outlander notes: New Sam Heughan video; more DVD details

Outlander season 4

Who wants to start off this weekend with a Sam Heughan video interview? A new one has surfaced online, and there are a fun couple of tidbits in here that are worth checking out.

Sam chats with Laura Boyd from What’s On Scotland about shooting Outlander over the years, its vast impact on Scottish tourism, and of course his recent My Peak Challenge gala that took place earlier this month. (This interview actually took place during one of the weekend’s events.) There is of course some of the customary questions about James Bond, but there is some silly fun at the end here as Laura and Sam play a bit of a Batman-or-Bond trivia game.

Of course, we firmly expect the Sam-as-Bond rumors to go on for at least another year or so until the next Bond is announced. We just think it’s such an easy question for folks to ask about because Bond is so enormously popular and it generates a few quick headlines. The Batman part of the interview doesn’t age as well, given that it’s since been reported since the time of this interview that former Twilight star Robert Pattinson is a top choice in order to play the comic-book Dark Knight. (Sam has technically already played Batman in a touring stage show — he remarks that the costume was rather sweaty, which makes a good bit of sense given that it’s all black and it leaves you very little room to breathe!)

Prepare for the season 4 DVD/Blu-Ray launch

Come May 28, the collector’s edition DVD and Blu-Ray will be available, and what we’ve got for you within here is a quick message to visit the official Instagram for The Outlander Collector. While there, you can view an Instagram Story that is basically an unboxing of the whole collection, including the complete season 4 soundtrack and also an excerpt from Diana Gabaldon’s upcoming Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, the ninth book in the series. We suppose that for many diehard book fans, that may be worth the price of admission as much as anything else. Hopefully, there will be more news on the next book before too long! This is just a nice little prelude.

We know that the upcoming collection also does feature the special Outlander Untold never-before-seen scenes that we’ve written about in the past; in between this, the soundtrack, and the book excerpt, we gotta give Sony some credit for making sure that this collection is actually worth getting. With so many TV DVD sets these days, it’s so easy to just watch old episodes on Netflix or some other streaming service. Why? the collections don’t actually give you all that much in the way of tangible benefits.
