Arrow season 8: CW boss open to Emily Bett Rickards return
Speaking (via TVLine) while at The CW’s pre-upfront discussion with reporters, network programming head Mark Pedowitz praised Emily’s talent — and, in turn, expressed hope that there could be a way to bring her back:
“Emily was terrific on the show and we believe [executive producer] Beth Schwartz did a great job wrapping up Felicity’s storyline [in the finale] … Beth can find a way to bring her back that makes sense, and Emily is available, we’d love to have her. Otherwise, I’m pleased by how they said goodbye to the character.”
Obviously, Pedowitz doesn’t want to do anything that would generate false hope that Emily could come back given that there is no guarantee that we’re going to see it. We do think that there will be some sort of request thrown out there to Emily when the time comes later this year, but it could depend heavily on what the story is and if she’s available to come back (i.e. if she doesn’t have another gig that renders it impossible).
For now, we’re at least hopeful about the idea that someday Oliver and Felicity are going to have a chance to be together again as the Monitor came to Felicity in the future and offered her a path to go and see her husband. This was seemingly confirmed that Oliver is not dead, which was what we feared based on what was discussed earlier on in the episode. It seems like whatever happened with Crisis on Infinite Earths may have caused him to be cast aside from Earth-1, never to be seen or heard from again. It’s a strange situation that the show finds itself in right now, and the final-season synopsis via the network doesn’t exactly give a whole lot more away:
“[Oliver], in the wake of discovering what his future holds, will find himself pit against his most challenging battle yet, one that will leave the multiverse hanging in the balance … In Arrow’s final season, Oliver Queen is forced to confront the reality of what it means to be a hero.”

Obviously, this final season will be all sorts of intense, and we hope that in addition to Emily, there is going to be a number of other notable performers from the past few years who get a chance to return. We want this season to be a celebration of all things Arrow, and we really hope it delivers this fall.
