Outlander notes: More season 5 discussion; Emmy campaign talk

Outlander season 4

Ready for another edition of Outlander notes? This time around, we’re talking about some of the latest when it comes to season 5 production, plus also a follow-up to our conversation about the Emmys from earlier this week.

Let’s start, though, by talking about where we could be at present in filming — the team may be starting on a new episode! In a new, funny post on Instagram, Lauren Lyle (who seemingly has gotten a hold of her co-star Cesar Domboy’s script) shows off a new production draft — one that could be for the third or fourth episode of the season. Outlander should be about done with the first block of episodes (think episodes 1 and 2) at this point, and that will give them a chance to move on to whatever is next. While there’s no clear title or episode number on the script, you can see that it is written by Luke Schelhaas, who has penned such other episodes as “Wilmington,” “The Bakra” and “The Deep Heart’s Core.” He’s got an understanding of some of these characters and the greater world, so we’ll get a chance to see what he has up his sleeve here whenever Outlander season 5 premieres in the new year.

More than likely, the next month, give or take, will be spent with the cast and crew working their way through the next couple of episodes. We’ve already projected in a recent timeline article that filming should be done around the end of the year, and we’re hoping that season 5 will be ready to go by the spring.

A little more Emmy conversation…

Yesterday, we posted some of the acting submissions that are apparently happening for some of the actors including Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, and a few others. Today, meanwhile, we’re taking on another question: Will the show’s impeccable set design and costuming be recognized?

While some of the technical categories were not mentioned within the piece yesterday, rest assured that the work of Terry Dresbach (in her final season), Jon Gary Steele, and others will still receive some consideration. Whether or not they receive nominations is to be determined, but some of these technical categories, in general, remain a reasonably safe bet for this show. Just remember that in between the show’s set design, its costumes, its music, and the impressive visual aesthetic, Outlander does some stuff that very few others can.

Anyhow, we’ll get a sense of full Emmy nominations in July — meanwhile, in the interim, we are going to be continuing our Emmy Hopefuls article series and, to go along with that, we’ll have our annual Emmy polls kicking off in June. Come back soon for more discussion on that.

What are you the most excited to see when it comes to Outlander season 5? Be sure to share right now in the comments.
