Britain’s Got Talent review: Colin Thackery, Ben Hart, Dust in the Wind

BGT

Tonight, we’re back with more auditions on Britain’s Got Talent! This means more opportunities to have some fun, and also (hopefully) a chance to see some great talent. We’re going to

Russell T Bird – This was one of the weirder musical acts, mostly because of the fact that a sound malfunction kept anything from working properly — still, the man carried on! This was quite fun, but not necessarily the sort of thing that we’ll remember a day from now.

Brotherhood – What in the world was this? Basically, this was an excuse to watch people with swords do a little bit of violence and danger. This was basically an Aaron Crow act all over again, but the style was cool and that’s a part of what matters. Nobody got impaled with swords, so that’s good … right?

Dust in the wind – These two performers from Cuba promised something that was different and dangerous, and of course we wondered what that would be. As it turns out, they are contemporary dancers and acrobats. An outstanding act and so well-orchestrated.

Khronos Girls – They want to be the first all-female dance group to win this show, and they looked to do a routine that was really defined by the suffragette movement. We love the purpose and the message. Powerful stuff, but we do wish there were perhaps fewer dancers so the individual moves stood out.

Colin Thackery – Typically, older singers don’t have the power that he does. His performance of “Wind Beneath My Wings” was perfect, mostly in that it was a testament to his late wife and the relationship they had.

Big Name Statues – This was weird — statues coming to life in order to do some sort of performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody.” It was certainly entertaining for what it was, but so much of it is based on the one-time wow factor. Unless they all do something creative next time, how will the show live up to this.

Ben Hart – A really outstanding magician with unique ideas and staging — he actually feels almost like a Harry Potter character as much as a real person walking among us.

Chapter 13 – The Golden Buzzer recipient of Amanda Holden! You can read more about them now over at the link here. They were so well-practiced and they came out tonight to deliver a lot of great performances from start to finish.

Perhaps the biggest surprise here is that it looks like we’re getting at least one more audition show still. We’re not at the end just yet!
