ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 5 spoilers: Who’s in the holiday spirit?

Yes, it does feel a little bit early to be presenting some holiday-related scoop for the “Castle” Christmas episode airing a little later this year … but since we already have a carol or two in our heart, we’re going to go ahead and do it anyway.

So what can we tell you? First and foremost, this December episode will be entitled “Secret Santa,” and if we had to guess from the extensively history of murder mysteries, it is probably going to be something involving St. Nick biting it. (Let’s just hope that it is not in front of 200 impatient children at a mall.) What we can also add via E! News is that the premise is going to be something that allows for some romance between Castle and Beckett to occur. Let’s just hope that the moment is not as fleeting as when these two decide to visit the Hamptons in Monday night’s new episode.

What’s interesting about Christmas episodes for any show is that they tend to really go either way. While we have seen some installments of shows (think “The Office” or “Chuck”) that are beyond magical to watch, there are others that are more rotten than eggnog left out of the fridge. Much of this, though, is due to the fact that many holiday episodes of dramas tend to never quite know where to go since they don’t always want to fully embrace the holiday cheer. Since “Castle” is full of moments that are both lighthearted and serious, we’re feeling pretty confident that they will be able to pull this off without a problem.
