Unfortunately, it seems like it’s time for The Passage on Fox to officially pass on.
Today, the network confirmed that the science fiction series has been canceled after one season, with it likely being a product of a couple of different factors. With Fox needing to cut down on original programming hours due to the arrival of wrestling this fall, they had to find a way to trim some shows from the schedule. The ratings also were not fantastic, but they were also far from terrible — averaging a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic is not horrible for a first-year genre show in 2019.
You can make a similar argument about another canceled show today in The Cool Kids, which is now done after only one season on the air. It was a fairly natural pairing with Last Man Standing and we actually thought that the two shows matched up against each other rather well — The Cool Kids also averaged a 0.8, which isn’t terrible for a Friday-night comedy. the problem here is likely more that the ratings did fall throughout the spring to the point where this show was only bringing in around a 0.6, which led Fox to consider some of their other options.
This is one of the biggest things that you’ve got to take into consideration at the moment with both of these two shows — Fox is entering a brand-new era with a different push following Disney scooping up a lot of their assets, and clearly, there are going to be a lot of really tricky decisions that have to be made with all of their shows. We’re going to see a largely-revamped lineup for them coming up but unfortunately, because of all of the changes there are a lot of things that will look different on their lineup in the process of that. We aren’t exactly holding out a candle for a number of the network’s other bubble shows at the moment, whether it be Lethal Weapon or The Orville — though we’re still hoping for good news for the latter.
While you wait for some more renewal/cancellation news to come out, we highly suggest that you check out our guide! That’s where we are going to have some more news throughout the day — one we call Bloody Friday for a very specific reason.
