NCIS season 16 episode 23 preview: Mark Harmon’s ‘Lost Time’ showcase
As of late, the CBS show is doing a good job of handing him over some excellent material and allowing him to run wild with it, whether it be giving Gibbs an opportunity to shake up his rule system or having him encounter vigilante justice in a large-scale way. It’s a chance to cultivate something thoughtful and interesting for the character, a sort of depth beyond the classic “grab your gear” sort of moments that we’ve seen over the years. From what we’re sensing, the final episodes of this season are going to be themed in a lot of ways around some of this stuff, and Gibbs trying to reconcile and better understand just who he is at this point within his life.

Below, CarterMatt offers the official NCIS season 16 episode 23 synopsis with some more information as to what’s coming up next:
“Lost Time” – The NCIS team investigates the murder of a Marine Sergeant in the States who was hailed as a war hero for his efforts overseas. Also, Gibbs turns to Doctor Grace Confalone (Laura San Giacomo) for advice after he uncharacteristically unravels and abandons his team at a crime scene investigation, on NCIS, Tuesday, May 14 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
What does Gibbs “unraveling” really look like? Hopefully, that’s something that this upcoming episode will paint a clear picture of! We don’t exactly think of him as the sort of guy to have some sort of explicit mental breakdown — he really is so put-together most of the time and he doesn’t let people break down many of his walls. This may be what Grace Confalone is able to help him with. (Does anyone else think her name is almost a play on making sure you have someone to confide in, and you’re not alone? Maybe that’s just us.)
Of course, beyond the personal story there is still a larger mystery present here, and there could still be something else as well. While we’re not getting an explicit sense that the Ziva storyline is going to surface in a huge way the rest of the season, this show may find a way to surprise us. After all, they’ve been able to do that before.
