When Calls the Heart ratings solid following Lori Loughlin exit

When Calls the Heart

For the past week or so, we’ve been certainly curious to see what the When Calls the Heart ratings would be like following Lori Loughlin’s departure. As a matter of fact, we’ve written a full article about it! It was a point of great curiosity for us given all of the drama that surrounded what happened there, let alone everything that the writers have done in order to figure out the show without her as a part of it.

We thought that there would be at least a small boost for the show’s first episode back on Sunday, mostly because curiosity would be at a high to see what the show’s overall performance is. As it turns out, that is more or less accurate. Sunday’s new episode generated a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic to go along with 2.27 million viewers. These are slight increases in live viewing from the last episode with Loughlin that aired earlier this year, but also right in line with the performance from some episodes that aired before it. The easiest takeaway to offer up here is that while Loughlin’s exit may have generated some curiosity, it wasn’t so substantial to send shockwaves into the show’s numbers.

Ultimately, Hallmark Channel probably got what they wanted here in evidence that When Calls the Heart really hasn’t changed that much. It’s mostly the same audience that has always been there, and it does feel like they continue to have their loyal crowd of Hearties ready to explore the world of Hope Valley.

Of course, we don’t want to issue any sort of false proclamations here that the ratings for When Calls the Heart now are going to be the same as the ratings for When Calls the Heart later on this season, given that there could still be a drop-off … we just don’t expect much of one. The network’s moving past the controversy and with a season 7 renewal already in place, they clearly are not worried that there’s going to be a blowback to dismissing Loughlin from the cast that comes in their direction.

More so than losing someone from the cast, the weather is probably going to be the biggest threat to When Calls the Heart moving forward. After all, with warmer temperatures in the spring than the winter, there’s going to be more of a desire for viewers to go outside and perhaps do different things.
