As you probably have heard already, Colin Donnell and Norma Kuhling are leaving Chicago Med at the conclusion of the season 4 finale. This isn’t exactly news that anyone wants to hear, but that’s where we are right now and also what we’re dealing with. The news was announced and there’s no real walking it back.
The question that you have to ask more instead is whether or not the season 4 finale is actually going to end the story of Connor and Ava in a meaningful way — and that really comes down to if there were discussions beforehand that it could be the final episode for both of these characters. We hope that there was a plan for some proper closure, mostly since that would otherwise put the writers in a horrible position having to work something up on the fly moving into season 5. We certainly think that they could do it, but it wouldn’t exactly be an ideal situation — that would especially be the case if neither one of them opt to appear again. At least for Rache DiPillo, she returned one more time as Sarah Reese before saying farewell earlier this season.

Want a few more details now about the finale, and some of what you can expect to see? Well, CarterMatt has the official Chicago Med season 4 finale synopsis below with more intel:
05/22/2019 (08:00PM – 09:00PM) (Wednesday) : In the season finale, Dr. Charles and Caroline set some major plans. Ava fights to keep her relationship with Connor. Agent Lee informs Will of news that may put his life in danger. TV-14 V
Who is coming for Will? That’s obviously another central component of the upcoming episode and, at the moment, our feeling is that we’re going to be seeing this tied somehow to Ray and what we got a little bit earlier this season. If someone with ties for him is going to make him relive some of this trauma, the #1 question that you have to wonder is whether or not he’s going to be okay mentally on the other side. Physically, we’re a little more confident in his future — can you imagine if this show chose to write out Nick Gehlfuss alongside some of the other actors we’ve already mentioned? That would basically be a cause for One Chicago pandemonium, and we’re pretty sure that nobody over at NBC wants that.
