Supergirl season 4 episode 21 preview: ‘Red Dawn’ & Red Daughter
Basically, this is the showdown between Supergirl and Red Daughter, between Kara and her other self. Two women with different histories, different training, and different mentors. It’s really the battle that everyone has been waiting for since Red Daughter was first teased. It’s going to be intense, but it’s also really just a stepping stone to Lex Luthor. Her connection to Lex has already been well-documented and beyond just that, we know Jon Cryer is going to be coming back in the finale. That’s news that has already been placed out there and with that, this is news that we’re excited to discuss more moving forward.
For some more insight all about the episode and what to expect, be sure to take a look at the official Supergirl season 4 episode 21 synopsis below:
SUPERGIRL BATTLES RED DAUGHTER – Kara (Melissa Benoist) comes face to face with Red Daughter and the two engage in an epic battle. Determined to find a way to extract the Harun-El, Lena (Katie McGrath) turns to an unlikely source for help – Lillian Luthor (guest star Brenda Strong). Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) realizes she’s missing parts of her memory, and Brainy (Jesse Rath), Nia (Nicole Maines) and J’onn (David Harewood) set out to track down aliens who have been abducted by Lex. Alexis Ostrander directed the episode with story by Lindsay Sturman and teleplay by Gabriel Llanas & Eric Carrasco (#421). Original airdate 5/12/2019.
Isn’t it exciting to see Brenda Strong back to the show? She will be back for the final two episodes, and hopefully, this will be a means to extract the Harun-El storyline from the show itself. While it’s lead to some exciting twists on this season, we don’t want to get into a spot where almost everyone has powers. After all, if that happens, it suddenly becomes a little too crazy and you start to lose a little bit of humanity. We’re not sure that this is something that anyone wants since humanity is what makes Supergirl so special.
The message of season 4, overall, appears to be one about cooperation, the common good, and learning that there are different ways to battle adversaries. Therefore, we’re not willing to predict that Supergirl vs. Red Daughter will end in some sort of physical showdown. You may get some action packed scenes of Melissa Benoist battle herself, but there is another way in which to get to Red Daughter — through her heart. She’s not Lex. She’s just been led down a certain path. With that in mind, you have to wonder if there is a way to lead her back out of that, one where this story can be turned around without a tragic outcome. Time will tell, but this show does love to reward you for having hope.
