Outlander season 5 production teaser highlights: What’s next at Fraser’s Ridge

Outlander season 4

To go along with the premiere of The Spanish Princess on the Starz app tonight, the first Outlander season 5 production teaser arrived — and it was fantastic. How fantastic? Let’s just say that it painted a lovely, panoramic image of life at Fraser’s Ridge, and the sense of family that was present there for many of the characters.

Many familiar faces were involved here, whether it be Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, or Duncan Lacroix — all of them spoke during the teaser, and most of them were in costume. (Lacroix was not — no old-age makeup for him here!) We saw the can talk a little bit about some of themes of season 5, including home, family, and expanding a world that is already clearly there for them.

Of course, we’d love to provide you a video version — if there was an official one released. Since there hasn’t been, let’s instead at least point you in the direction of some highlights.

Richard sans beard – He’s clearly come to find his way in the world! He’s no longer the same, scraggly man we saw through most of season 4 after struggling to make his way into the New World. He’s now a father and he gets to actually build a proper relationship with Brianna.

No obvious spoilers – For those wondering, the focus was on the cabin as opposed to another iconic Fraser’s Ridge setting in the Big House.

A small reminder of the threats ahead – We didn’t have a chance to see a lot of them, but we did at least have a passing few frames of the redcoats passing through. We know that the redcoats are going to be an enormous part of the upcoming story, due mostly to the orders that Jamie received at the end of this past season.

Jemmy’s a little older – There is a time jump — though not a huge one — between the end of season 4 and where we’ll be in the early going in season 5. You’ll see how Brianna acts as a mother to her son, and how Roger adapts to both being a parent and living in an environment that’s at least slightly safer than what he had for most of this past season.

No premiere date, or even details – We imagine that season 5 is going to premiere next year, but there wasn’t too much said about it here. This was just a way to tell everyone in video form that the fifth season is coming, and that has to be enough for now.

What do you think about tonight’s Outlander season 5 production teaser reveal and are there some elements of it that stand out to you? Be sure to share right now in the comments, and check back soon for more news.
