Outlander season 5: Star Sam Heughan meeting with Prince Charles

Outlander season 4

This is clearly turning out to be quite the great week for Sam Heughan, isn’t it? He’s filming Outlander season 5, he’s celebrated a birthday, and we’ve also learned recently about the tremendous success of his Omaze campaign, one that led to a lucky guest being able to attend the My Peak Challenge gala alongside the actor. How much success exactly? Think, per a recent announcement by the company, almost $2.9 million! That’s a tremendous testament to the actor’s devoted fans and beyond that, their commitment to his charitable causes.

Now, we come bearing even more great news for Sam coming up this weekend: He’s spending time with the Royal Family! Or, more specifically, he’s getting a little bit of time with Prince Charles. On Friday, Prince Charles is visiting the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, not far from where Outlander‘s main production base is located. Sam is a graduate of the program, while Prince Charles is a patron of the Conservatoire. It’s an opportunity for the two to spend at least a little time together, and Sam is also set to host a Q&A with acting students — some of whom, more than likely, are aspiring to be just like him.

In a statement (via BT), Professor Jeffrey Sharkey, principal of the Conservatoire, had the following to say:

“We’re delighted to have a patron [in Prince Charles] who is passionate about the value of the arts to society and is committed, as we are, to the vital importance of early access to and progression in arts education. The arts have such a crucial role to play in the current and future well-being of individuals, communities and society as whole and this visit is a chance to celebrate the creative and performing arts at the Conservatoire and the strong commitment of our patron.

“I’m also delighted that Sam Heughan is able to join us for this special occasion. Sam is a fantastic role model and I hope he too enjoys his visit. It’s always a pleasure to welcome our graduates back home to RCS to share their experiences with current students.”

This marks a tremendous homecoming for Sam, while for the students it marks a great opportunity. We’re happy that he gets a chance to do this, especially in the middle of a busy production schedule working on the Starz drama. Just think of everything that the man has going on behind the scenes already! It’s a miracle in itself that there was enough time for him to go and do something like this in the middle of the work week. Outlander is certainly now in full force on production, which is going to probably last through most of this year. Season 5, at least per our own estimations, will be coming in early 2020.

Are you thrilled for Sam, and do you think this is another example of the results that come to both a gifted performer and also someone who frequently opts to give back? Share below!
