Riverdale season 3 episode 21 preview: Who is the Gargoyle King?

Riverdale season 3 episode 2

Will Riverdale season 3 episode 21 finally inch us closer to the identity of the Gargoyle King? That’s one of the mysteries at the heart of the season. It certainly seems to be at the heart of where the story is going and we imagine that, by the end of the finale, there will be something more on this subject.

Here’s the question you just gotta wonder: Is it possible that we’ll learn the truth about them next week? How long is this show going to make you wait at this point? There’s a real case for the writers to deliver this news next week, mostly because that sets things up in a BIG way moving into the finale. The only alternative is that you try to slowly inch closer to this before season 4 rolls around. There already IS a season 4, so you don’t have to worry all that much about that. You can just worry about all of the characters and some of the problems that they are facing instead.

Below, CarterMatt offers up the official Riverdale season 3 episode 21 synopsis, which gives you more of a sense as to what’s coming:

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED – Veronica (Camila Mendes) turns to Mary (guest star Molly Ringwald) and Archie (KJ Apa) for help after uncovering a secret that Hiram (Mark Consuelos) had been keeping from her. Betty (Lili Reinhart) raises questions after witnessing some strange activities at The Farm. Jughead (Cole Sprouse) finds himself one step closer to uncovering the Gargoyle King’s identity. Madelaine Petsch, Marisol Nichols, Skeet Ulrich, Casey Cott, Charles Melton and Vanessa Morgan also star. Rob Seidenglanz directed the episode written by Cristine Chambers & James DeWille (#321). Original airdate 5/8/2019.

Ultimately, this episode seems to be all about discovery — it’s just coming about for different people in some REALLY different ways. For Veronica, it’s about turning to Mary and Archie after realizing some other possibly dark stuff via Hiram. (How many more bad secrets can this guy really keep at this point?)

Then, you’ve got Betty trying to put on her detective cap. We’ve certainly seen her within this role but one of the things that we’ve realized is the longer that this story goes, the more dangerous the position she’s in will be. It’s not like the writers are suddenly going to be like “oh okay, we’re going to actually give Betty a little bit of an easier time now.” Why do that when this ENTIRE SHOW is built on drama?

Yet, despite all of this stuff being exciting, in the end where we are with Riverdale is really all about the Gargoyle King right now. This is the metaphorical straw that stirs the drink, and the mystery that has viewers shouting more towards the heavens. This is the thing that could alter either the end of this season or immediately what’s coming up next.
