American Gods season 3 premiere date hopes: When could it be back?
Let’s start, by addressing the fact that there WILL be a season 3 of this series. After all, this was already confirmed by Starz! It’s also been made official that Charles “Chic” Eglee is set to serve as the new showrunner, which is hopefully going to end this series’ cycle of constantly shifting around creative people at the top. That’s been one of the series’ largest issues as they have had to find a way in order to preserve quality while also changing major players working to make it shine behind the scenes.
In a statement at the time of the renewal, here is what the network’s own programming head Carmi Zlotnik had to say:
“Audiences continue to worship at the altar of American Gods and we are excited to be able to announce to all the true believers that there is more of this fantastical series to come … With Chic at the helm, the invaluable insight and contributions of Neil Gaiman and the undeniable talent of this dedicated cast and crew, we know that the show will continue to deliver on the vision and promise laid out in the novel.”
As for when American Gods season 3 will premiere…
Let’s go ahead and make one part of this clear: We don’t think that we are in line for anywhere near as long of a wait as we were between seasons 1 and 2. That was a result of a lot of the behind-the-scenes changes, and obviously the hope here is that in renewing the show early and finding a new showrunner, American Gods season 3 will get off the ground within a reasonable window of time.
Personally, we’d be surprised if the show didn’t return with new episodes next year, even if it’s not in the spring. Typically, the goal for Starz is to at least have a new season for some of their shows every year and a half. They’re able to make a new season of Power every year and we feel like they’d be interested in doing the same thing with Outlander if they feasibly could. The challenge for that show is mostly the scale of it plus having to do so much stuff on location. American Gods has its fair share of production challenges, especially when you think about all of the work required in post-production. That’s probably one of the reasons why it takes so much time in order for new seasons to come out.
