Law & Order: SVU season 20 episode 22 preview: Snoop Dogg + ‘Diss’

Next week on Law & Order: SVU season 20 episode 22, you’re getting arguably one of your biggest guest stars in quite some time. Sure, there are a number of things that are compelling about the story this week, but Snoop Dogg is clearly going to be what NBC decides to push. It’s not often that you get a musical/pop-culture icon like him appearing on an episode of any primetime show, especially playing a role that isn’t just a caricature of himself. Within “Diss,” he is playing a recording artist, but there is no guarantee that he’s going to be similar to who he is in life.

Snoop’s character is going to be a central part of a story that will also feature Sleepy Hollow / American Gods actor Orlando Jones, and we feel on the surface one of the things that is notable about this story is its look into rap and music culture. How much that plays into the case remains to be seen, but obviously music is at the focal point of these men’s lives.

For some more news, be sure to check out the official SVU season 20 episode 22 synopsis:

05/02/2019 (10:00PM – 11:00PM) (Thursday) : SNOOP DOGG GUEST STARS — When a pop star is assaulted in her home, the SVU investigates the public feud between her rapper husband (guest star Orlando Jones) and a competing recording artist (guest star Snoop Dogg). Meanwhile, Fin’s (Ice T) family ties to a suspect takes him off the case. Also starring Mariska Hargitay, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino and Philip Winchester. Also guest starring Amber Stevens West (Dallas Monroe), L. Scott Caldwell (Jo Anderson), Deandre Leatherbury (Andreas Harper), Elizabeth Tate (Vickie Lewis) and Milan Marsh (Lexie Monroe). TV-14 L, V

For Ice T in particular, we gotta think that this was an especially-fun story to work on. We imagine that he and Snoop have known each other for a long time due to their shared history in the music business, and getting to collaborate in a way like this had to be a treat.

Now, let’s go big-picture — this is going to be the last standard SVU episode of the season. There are two more coming on the other side of it, but they are a little more serialized and look back at what we had earlier this season with Titus Welliver as Rob Miller. Given what we’ve already learned about Miller and this terrible dude’s character, his presence within these final episodes is probably going to ratchet up the drama for Benson, for Dodds, and basically for everyone else within the complicated world of this show. We know what he’s capable of, and that’s what does have us nervous coming out of season 20.
