As we’re starting to look towards Chicago Fire season 7 episode 20, there’s of course another crisis for Firehouse 51 to get through. Isn’t there always? This time around though, there is another added twist that you’re going to see: The team is doing what they can to investigate an arson. Severide and Boden are going to be working together in an effort to figure out what happened at a hair salon; beyond just that, this episode will also feature the search for some equipment and, hopefully, a few more bits and pieces to some long-term plots.
Bad news alert – This episode is NOT airing next week. Instead, “Try Like Hell” will be coming up on NBC when you get around to Wednesday, May 8. Like Chicago Med and Chicago PD, the Billboard Music Awards is slowing things around in terms of it coming back to the air. This does mean that the show’s sticking around a little bit longer in May, so … consider this a silver lining?
As you saw on tonight’s episode, it feels like Casey and Brett are starting to get a little bit closer together. Is that going to last as an important story point? That’s something that seems to be blossoming, but it’s not altogether clear at the moment if we’re going to get to that full-bloom stage. Meanwhile, there’s also another relationship in Severide and Stella that seems to be taking some positive steps in the right direction. They’ve dealt with at least some of their darkness, and Kelly is now firmly in the “I am working on himself” part of the relationship. If he can find a better sense of inner piece, then maybe we will get to a point where they are happy and starting to move forward as an item again. We’re just not there yet.

Unfortunately, the official Chicago Fire season 7 episode 20 synopsis doesn’t exactly give clues on any relationships — it’s more just about detailing what’s coming up in terms of the individual storylines:
05/08/2019 (09:00PM – 10:00PM) (Wednesday) : Severide and Boden search to uncover whether arson was the cause of a fire at a hair salon. Mouch, Herrmann, Otis and Kidd make a startling discovery in tracking down the missing piercing nozzle from Engine 27. TV-14 LV
Could all of this prove exciting? Certainly so, but the larger concern that we have at the moment is that we’re so close to the finale and yet, there’s no sense of what some of the larger narrative push could be in that episode. It’s good to know that much of the cast seems to be coming back for a season 8, but we think we’ve come to learn at this point that just because people are coming back doesn’t mean that the show is devoid of some sort of drama.
