Line of Duty season 5 episode 5 preview: What is Hastings hiding?

Line of Duty

Next week, Line of Duty season 5 episode 5 is set to arrive on BBC One and with this being the penultimate one of the season, you better anticipate a lot of craziness. This is going to be one of the biggest, boldest episodes of the entire season. There’s a lot of great stuff that you can expect to see in here, with the story of Corbett now in complete tatters and there being so much danger across the whole of the city.

Beyond that, though, there is still a larger mystery still underneath the surface here: What is Ted Hastings really up to? Is he actually H? While we thought at one point that the mysterious character was actually Hargreaves, that doesn’t seem as though it is the case anymore. Instead, the focus is being put on Hastings now instead, which makes sense given all of the evidence that is sprinkled within the story. Think in terms of the laptop, all sorts of shady facial reactions, or how reluctant this man seems to be at times to go along with the whims of some of his fellow colleagues. There is a heck of a lot of chaos going on here and we’re eager to explore quite a bit of it.

Below, CarterMatt offers up the official Line of Duty season 5 episode 5 synopsis with some other insight on what’s ahead:

As the hunt for ‘H’ intensifies, Steve and Kate wonder if Hastings is guarding a dark secret.

If we are to inject our own opinion here (and shouldn’t we?), we still have a really hard time thinking that Hastings is actually H just because of the fact that it’s almost TOO obvious. More than likely, there’s something else bubbling underneath the surface that we’re eager to see this show explore — think in terms of a larger mystery with a deeper traitor, or evidence that you don’t see coming.

As for Corbett…

We imagined that the story was going to revolve around intelligence and finding the right way for him and the police to work together. Then, we saw him killed off at the end of tonight’s episode as Lisa McQueen showed herself to be the real traitor who was working against him and buying her time for the right moment. With him gone, what does the investigation even look like now? Steve’s likely going to have a big role to play in all of this, especially since he is the person responsible for letting him go … and because of him, Corbett is now dead.
