Jon Seda talks leaving Chicago PD, Antonio Dawson character

Chicago PD exclusive preview

Mere hours after both Norma Kuhling and Colin Donnell both discussed their departures from Chicago Med, we’ve now seen Jon Seda go ahead and do the same from his own show in Chicago PD. He’s been a part of the One Chicago world for many years and many shows as this character, starting off on Fire before PD got the green light and eventually going over to Chicago Justice for the extent of its run. We don’t think that anyone has had a richer, fuller experience on this franchise in terms of stepping into so many shows, but now, Seda is set to say goodbye.

In a new post on Twitter confirming his exit, here’s just some of what Seda had to say about saying farewell to his show and to this character:

It’s been an honor portraying Det. Antonio Dawson in the #OneChicago world. To my cast #Family, I’ll always treasure the time and stories we shared. To all you #chihards out there, THANK YOU for being the best of fans! We’ll Always have CHICAGO

All indications out there suggest that we are going to see some sort of proper ending for the Antonio character this season, one that makes at least a reasonable amount of sense for his exit. No doubt, the departure will leave behind a huge void. Not only does he remain a really important foundational character to Chicago PD, but his relation to Gabby (who has already departed Chicago Fire) gave him such a natural connection to that show. There’s also the relationship that he had with Sylvie Brett, which ended up becoming incredibly popular with a number of Brettonio fans all over the entire world.

The bad news is that we’re obviously losing Seda, but the good news is that there’s always a chance he could come back at some point down the road. Given the flexibility of the actor between shows, it’s clear that he is a favorite of Wolf Films and he could also turn up somewhere else down the line. Anything is possible! Given that this exit is reportedly for creative reasons, we have a feeling that Seda may have just been ready for something new after being in the same world for the better part of the past six years. That’s understandable, and for many actors, in general, there is always that thirst for a new challenge and to be able to go out there and stretch their wings in some exciting, different ways.
