Jane & Weller (Blindspot) vs. Liz & Ressler (The Blacklist) – Crime Dynamic Duos 2019

Welcome to CarterMatt’s Crime Dynamic Duos for 2019! The goal for this tournament is pretty easy to explain: Recognizing some of the best crime fighters in all of television. The word “crimefighter” can at times have a loose interpretation, but for the sake of this tournament, we’re referring to it mostly as cops, lawyers, or investigators who do their best to take down some pretty bad people and fight to help others. They’re the sort of characters you typically admire, and they have an aspirational quality to them along with them being entertaining.

In today’s showdown, we’ve got a fascinating battle featuring NBC Friday-night shows! In one corner, we’ve got Jane & Weller of Blindspot. Meanwhile, in the other, we’ve got Liz & Ressler of The Blacklist. At this point, we think it’s clear that both have devoted followings, especially given some of the difficult opponents that they’ve each taken out to get here. The sad news for one of them is that they’re facing the reality that they can’t both move forward … only one can, and some fierce competition is still out there.

If you’ve been around for past editions of Crime Dynamic Duos, then you know a thing or two about how this works — at the bottom of this article is a poll to vote for who you want to see advance! One duo will, and at the end of the month, we’ll officially crown the champion in all of their glory.

How voting works – Vote however often you would like! (Technical instructions for multiple voting can be found right above the poll.) We will keep this poll open until Wednesday, April 24 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. The winner of this battle will be squaring off opposite some difficult, impressive competition — we’re certainly excited to see whoever it is, and the field there will start to be narrowed down a little bit starting tomorrow.

You can see the full bracket (including start dates for each individual round) in the graphic at the top of this article.

The competitors

Jane & Weller, Blindspot (#4 seed) – As these two character view for a spot in the final four, it’s definitely worth celebrating the position that they are in at the moment! They’ve been through quite a bit, but on the other side, they’ve emerged together both in terms of their work and also their personal life. They fight together with a sense of resolve, but also love since they’ve actually got that rare opportunity to know that they have each other’s backs. That’s not something that you typically see all that much of.

Jaimie Alexander and Sullivan Stapleton’s characters certainly are coming off quite a victory in Dynamic Duos, as they did just defeat Deeks & Kensi of NCIS: Los Angeles — a very formidable foe and characters who could’ve easily made it to the end.

Liz & Ressler, The Blacklist (#2 seed) – At the moment, it is pretty clear that Liz & Ressler are in a far different position than their NBC counterparts. They don’t have the same romantic history (though we know that there are plenty of ‘shippers out there), and at the moment, they’re actually in a really precarious spot with Ressler doing some work to uncover what happened to Katarina Rostova. Yet, we think of his undercover work as a sign that the two have perhaps more in common than Liz even realizes. They work well together and beyond that, they both know how to take on a side gig here and there.

We’re so excited to see where things go for these two characters, especially since we know that in this crazy world, Liz could go from being furious at Ressler over his recent actions one moment to being devoted to him the next. Things chance SO quickly and in such an exciting way.
