Outlander season 5, week 2 filming: What more do we know?

Outlander season 4

What other information is out there in regards to Outlander season 5? Week two of filming, provided there are no holiday weekend shoots, is officially in the can, and by and large, this was a quiet week when it comes to major story news or social-media posts from the set.

Nonetheless, we do think we’ve got a few more tidbits we’re happy to hand down right now on the subject of this show.

Obviously, the photo – We fully recognize that this photo is everywhere, but we do think it’s worth noting that there’s no guarantee this was actually shot this week. More than likely, the image was just snapped on an ideal day in which Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe were working around what we think is Fraser’s Ridge … though there’s not a whole lot of visual evidence here beyond what appears to be the backcountry behind them.

Good Friday filming – While a number of people out there may be off from work, that’s apparently not keeping the cast from Outlander from being on-set. Judging from some Instagram Stories we’ve seen, it does appear as though at least some cast was working today — they may have some time off for Easter this weekend, but there’s probably at least a relative sense of urgency to keep production humming along, given how long viewers are having to wait to get the latest batch of episodes. (Think most likely 2020.)

No major casting announcements – If there are some new characters on set at the moment, Starz is not announcing them. We wouldn’t be shocked if it takes a few weeks for them to get there, mostly because it makes some sense for production start with some of their leads as a means of setting the tone and getting people comfortable before some other people arrive.

The beauty of the drive – While this may be largely inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, one thing we have found fascinating this season is how many cast members seem to be reveling in the simple pleasures of their drive to and from work. It seems like they’re getting a great view of the sunrise coming in, and the sunrise coming out. We’ve seen a flurry of social-media posts and videos all about it — you can check out at least two via Caitriona Balfe and Sophie Skelton.

These week in filming updates, depending on what’s out there, may be something that we keep going throughout season 5. If nothing else, it’s a nice way to keep thing in perspective and help to measure time during what can obviously be a long, drawn-out process.
