Star Trek: Discovery season 3 premiere date hopes on CBS All Access
Let’s start things off with a reminder, that there is going to be a third season for the CBS All Access staple. This was announced a good while ago, and for good reason given that this is the sort of show that actually does benefit a great deal from some sort of advance renewal. The longer that the writer-producers have in order to craft something great here, the better off the series as a whole is going to be. This is also a show with so many special effects, and it takes a long period of time to craft. If you wanted even the slightest hope of season 3 coming within the first half of 2020, a renewal had to be put out there early.
We do also know some not-so-great news regarding some cast changes. As previously reported, both Anson Mount (Christopher Pike) and Rebecca Romijn (Number One) are leaving the series after a one-season stint. This was the plan seemingly for some time, as both actors only signed one-year deals and the idea was to line up this new show with some other elements of Star Trek lore. It’s a bummer to see them go, mostly because they did offer up some more intrigue in addition to establishing a great connection between this show and also classic Trek.
As for when season 3 could premiere, that goes back to what we mentioned earlier: Because of the lengthy period of time it takes in order to make this show, a tremendous amount of patience is required. We don’t want to say or hope for anything beyond that we get a chance to see Discovery back in the first half of 2020, mostly because that’s the best-case scenario. Maybe you could eke out some episodes earlier if you do the whole split-season thing, but we’re not sure how many people are really interested in that. At least for a straight season-long run you can just buy your CBS All Access subscription and then keep it until the season is wrapped up.
While you do endure what is sure to be a long hiatus, at least there’s a slight silver lining here. Remember that there is a Star Trek Picard series in the works featuring the return of Patrick Stewart and that there could also end up being a spin-off show featuring Michelle Yeoh. CBS All Access is going in hard on the Star Trek brand, which we really don’t mind since so long as all of the shows are good, this could prove to be very much worthwhile.
