Shadowhunters season 3 episode 19 video: Magnus wants to forget
At the end of episode 18 last night, Alec laid out his reasons for the breakup — ones that were really just fabricated because of what Asmodeus told him. He was so desperate to get Magnus his powers back that he was willing to sacrifice one of the most important things in his life. In doing so, however, he also deprived Magnus of one of the most important things in his life, and he didn’t get that much of a choice in the matter. We understand why Alec did what he did; he was acting in desperation, and acting out of what he felt was love. We can’t blame someone for trying to follow their heart, though it may lead in a devastating direction.

The most important thing to remember entering episode 19 is this: There is still hope, and there is still a chance for peace. There is no guarantee that the world of this show is going to end in this particular manner. Given that Shadowhunters did get a chance to create a finale with proper closure for all of its characters, we do anticipate happiness for Malec still being in the cards. It’s mostly just a matter now of whether or not there is time to properly heal all wounds, especially the emotionally traumatic one that comes with Alec wanting to end things, which leaves Magnus so devastated that he tries to do everything that he can to forget about him — even to the point where he considers wiping his brain. The new promo below gives you a small sense of that.
As for what else is coming…
You can read some more news over at the link here, but let’s just say that there are some other emotional storylines that are also coming up for other characters. For Jace, he’s gotta figure out if there is a way to release Clary from this bond before it’s too late and he loses her for good. On a more positive side, it seems as though Simon and Izzy are slowly moving in a direction towards getting together — it’s largely a question now of whether or not it happens. We’ve got two more episodes this season, then the big movie to finish it off. We’re nervous, but also hopeful that the writers have some epic stuff still very much in store for us.
