The Crown season 3 premiere date won’t be until later this year

Crown season 3

If you’ve been insanely curious about a season 3 premiere date for The Crownyou’re going to have to keep waiting.

According to a new report via Deadline, the latest chapter in the Peter Morgan-produced period drama is not set to grace the streaming service in royal fashion until the second half of the year — meaning, you’re going to be waiting until at least July 1 in order to check it out. The second season aired all the way back in November 2017, so it’s going to be a solid eighteen-plus months at least between the end of that season and the start of the new one.

The good news for The Crown is that it’s not going to be forgotten, and there is some content here that is very much worth waiting for. Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies are set to lead off the new season of the series, with the recastings being one of the most substantial reasons for the delay. Season 3 of The Crown is going to kick off another new chapter in the lives of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, one that begins in the early 1960’s as it progresses onward through the years that follow. This is a show that is taking a unique approach to telling the story of her life, with the series recasting most important characters every two seasons.

Here’s the other good news — because Colman, Menzies, and many other cast members have already been properly booked, we’re probably going to have a much shorter wait between the end of season 3 and the start of season 4. There’s already been some significant casting done leading into that season, including for the legendary figure of Princess Diana. We imagine that the fourth season will be arriving at some point in 2020.

The Crown remains one of Netflix’s most-successful upscale hits, and you have to believe that it will be complete awards-show gold the moment that it lands. This is the chance for everyone to finally recognize the greatness of Menzies, a man who has already proven himself to be quite magnificent in shows like Rome, Outlander, and The Terror but never got his proper due. Colman was at one point in a similar role, but we do think that this past Oscar season changed that for her quite dramatically.

Once there is finally some more news to unfold regarding The Crown season 3 and what could be coming up, you better believe that we’ll have it for you here.

For now, remember to share some of your thoughts regarding the MASSIVE wait for the new season in the comments, alongside what you want to see when the show returns. Rest assured that when there is some more spectacular news to report, we shall have it for you here. (Photo: Netflix.)
