Shameless season 10 spoilers: Noel Fisher returning as Mickey!
In a new post on Twitter today, the show’s official account did some brilliant viral marketing to get people excited about the idea. It began with some random messages popping up with the #BringMickeyBack hashtag, which at first made some users believe that the account was hacked by some rogue Mickey fan 100% committed to seeing Ian’s longtime love interest back on the show. Tonight, however, it was confirmed that this was no hoax — it was all a part of the plan from the get-go! You will see Fisher back for season 10 and while the precise number of appearances is not 100% clear, we imagine that it’s a substantial role. Otherwise, why promote it in such a way?
Fisher’s return coincides with the return of Cameron Monaghan as a full-fledged series regular, following his departure from the series midway through season 9. Because Shameless had written out Ian by having him be locked up in prison, it certainly felt like the writers had left the door ajar in hopes that they could bring back that character down the road. Because Mickey was locked up with him, there was a chance that this return could be done in-tandem.
The video from the official account tonight makes it seem as though Mickey is going to be orchestrating some sort of epic prison break and as awesome as that would be, we’re not sure that we can consider a social-media tease like this to be 100% canon. The one thing we can feel quite confident about, however, is that we’re going to be getting a chance to see whatever the next phase of this story looks like.

Consider this whole stunt today Showtime finding a way to get some good press around Shameless again. They lost Emmy Rossum as a series regular a little bit earlier this year and beyond that, there was also the William H. Macy headlines because of his wife Felicity Huffman’s arrest and recent plea. (We haven’t heard anything suggesting that Macy is going to depart the series, so, for now, we’re going to assume that he will continue to be a part of the action.
Shameless season 10 should premiere a little bit later on Showtime … and now there’s a further reason to start generating some more hype about it. We do think that there are a few more surprises that will be coming our way before the premiere.
