Blue Bloods season 9 episode 19: Donnie Wahlberg promises greatness

Blue Bloods season 9

At the time of this writing, CBS has not released much in the way of Blue Bloods season 9 episode 19 promotional material, much to our great misfortune. We’re always sad when this happens (they don’t always release a flurry of sneak peeks and the like), but we’re especially sad when the episode is as hyped as this one. “Common Enemies” feels like it’s got the potential to be a Blue Bloods firecracker, one of the installments that is going to blast the show into new territory.

Will there be some humor in this episode? Certainly, with a lot of it probably stemming from the chance to see Eddie’s mother (Christine Ebersole) meet Frank for the first time … which she will then interpret as her getting a chance to get out of future parking tickets. But, most of the drama will surface from getting to see the return of Lou Diamond Phillips as cartel hitman Luis Delgado, a man who’s claimed that Linda’s death was hardly an accident. He and Danny have been mortal enemies for most of this season’s run, but could this stance be changing? The title suggests so, as does the photo above and the forlorn facial expressions.

Maybe this is the episode where Delgado realizes and recognizes some of Danny’s pain in a way that he did not before, and we end up seeing the two work together rather than apart. In a post on Twitter HERE, Donnie Wahlberg confirms that this is an episode not to be missed and beyond that, one that will be featuring an appearance from the iconic Danny Trejo. We’d see Trejo on set in the past but were a little bit reluctant to confirm him without getting some official word from people within the cast that he’d be stopping by. His character within this episode is named Jose Rojas, and carries with him the nickname “The Calm.” Who wants to bet that the nickname is ironic, kind of like when you see a super-huge guy who is actually nicknamed Tiny? We wouldn’t be shocked if he ends up becoming the common enemy for Danny and Delgado … but we’ll get a chance to see more of what when the episode airs.

For now, Donnie is telling everyone to bring their Kleenex for this episode, and who are we to argue against him? If he believes that this is one of the most emotional episodes of the series to date, we’re inclined to believe him — after all, he’s been there for every single one of them.
