Jane the Virgin season 5 episode 4 preview: A scramble for advice

Jane the Virgin season 4

When Jane the Virgin season 5 episode 4 airs on The CW next week, we’re going to be seeing Jane in, yet again, another precarious spot. That’s what happens when you’ve got a character coming back from the dead and facing some significant relationship upheaval! It’s also a time where you are still seeing XO struggling and you’re seeing some important career decisions continue to be a part of the story.

This show is nuts — gloriously nuts. That’s one of the things that we love the most about it, and certainly one of the reasons why it’s lasted so long.

As a good jumping-off point to a discussion on what’s next, be sure to check out the official Jane the Virgin season 5 episode 4 synopsis below:

WORST NIGHTMARES – After talking to everyone else about what is going on in her life, Jane (Gina Rodriguez) turns to Petra (Yael Grobglas), who she knows will give her a straight answer. In return, Petra leans on Jane for advice about JR (guest star Rosario Dawson). Xo (Andrea Navedo) is determined to be at grandparents’ day for Mateo but still has one more chemo treatment. Meanwhile, Alba (Ivonne Coll) is getting mixed messages from Jorge (guest star Alfonso DiLuca) about their relationship. Justin Baldoni and Jaime Camil also star. Melanie Mayron directed the episode written by Carolina Rivera & Liz Sczudlo (#504). Original airdate 4/17/2019.

Now, let us turn to the promo below and the BIG dose of crazy that it hands out. After all, you see Jane tell Rafael that she’s ready to move forward and forget about the drama of the past few weeks. Basically, she’s ready to get back to some of the life that she’s known and that she’s loved oh so much. Then, with just one quick little glimpse of someone out of the corner of her eye, all of that may change. The world, once more, could get flipped on its head.

Given that we’re only three episodes into Jane the Virgin season 5, we’re not at the point where you can consider ANY relationship staple. No matter what is happening within the story, the primary takeaway you have to remember is that this show’s a telenovela. That’s the way that it’s been built from the start and that’s the identity that it will continue to have until the very end. There’s a reason why the upcoming spin-off anthology series is entitled Jane the Novela — it’s meant to be a play on the telenovela format, but also a play on what is Jane’s life as a writer at the moment. This format could dictate a good bit of the story, even if we do come to some sort of reasonable conclusion by the time we reach the end of the road.
