If you’re a big-time Outlander reader on CarterMatt, there’s a good chance that you’ve already heard the news: Season 5 is filming! All of that anticipation and hope to make it to this point is finally paying off. Just in the past couple of days we’ve seen some tremendous social-media teases from Sam Heughan, and also got confirmation that executive producer Matthew B. Roberts wrote the premiere episode. We’re also thinking that a few more little social-media teases could be coming.
But what’s on the other side of that? What’s the next big thing that should be officially released for public consumption? We’re down to do a little bit of brainstorming on this subject, and we’d love for you to come along for the ride!
Want to get some Outlander video coverage? Then check out some of our thoughts on season 5’s recent table read below! For some more great scoop remember to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube and also check out our official Outlander playlist for more.
1. Some sort of official photo – The easiest thing for Starz to do is to just put out a quick snap since it’s something that doesn’t require just a great deal of time to put out there. You can release a photo without giving away much of anything, and it also doesn’t take too much time away from filming to set it up. We wouldn’t be shocked if something came out over the next few weeks, with some huge alarm sounding along the way to remind you that more than likely, season 5 isn’t going to be premiering until 2020. (That’s not confirmed, but we don’t know how it’s going to be coming before that.)
2. Casting news! – We know that this is something that’s been going on for a while — while there may not need to be as many new characters for season 5 as there needed to be for season 4, there are always new faces populating this world. Starz could opt to release some info on a new casting or two soon, or they could just choose to horde some of the info to release en masse down the road. Since most of the actors who join the show are relative unknowns in America, they can often wait to announce castings until they feel like. There’s no real rush, though it’d be cool from our end to start scoping out some of their other work.
3. A teaser or a scene – This is obviously the thing that the internet would go into crazy Droughtlander overdrive for, but this is also the thing that’s likely to be the furthest out. It’s just hard to ponder Starz wanting to release something right now, so far in advance, or even having the footage or the resources to do it. The first Outlander season 4 tease came months after filming started, and that was just one lasting seconds and airing following the season 3 finale. They have no hurry, and they can instead focus on some other things.
While we wait…
We’ll just be happy with a few more social-media teases. Provided that it’s not a hindrance to work, can the Outlander team please keep that up?
