Hawaii Five-0 (Steve & Danny) vs. Chicago PD (Halstead & Upton) – Crime Dynamic Duos 2019

Dynamic duos

Welcome to CarterMatt’s Crime Dynamic Duos for 2019! The goal for this tournament is pretty easy to explain: Recognizing some of the best crime fighters in all of television. The word “crimefighter” can at times have a loose interpretation, but for the sake of this tournament, we’re referring to it mostly as cops, lawyers, or investigators who do their best to take down some pretty bad people and fight to help others. They’re the sort of characters you typically admire, and they have an aspirational quality to them along with them being entertaining.

Within this piece, we’re officially kicking off the second round! To go along with that, we’ve also got a pair of great duos worthy of some attention — Steve & Danny from Hawaii Five-0 and then also Halstead & Upton from Chicago PD. They both had super-impressive showings in round one and in that way, it’s actually rather sad that only one of them is going to get a chance to move forward to round 3. Yet, that’s the thing when it comes to Crime Dynamic Duos as a tournament — not everyone gets to the very end of it. There can only be one winner.

If you’ve been around for past editions of Crime Dynamic Duos, then you know a thing or two about how this works — at the bottom of this article is a poll to vote for who you want to see advance! One duo will, and at the end of the month, we’ll officially crown the champion in all of their glory.

How voting works – Vote however often you would like! (Technical instructions for multiple voting can be found right above the poll.) We will keep this poll open until Thursday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time, and there are technically a lot of potential opponents for the winner still in the running — think in terms of Bishop & Torres, Donna & Harvey, Sam & Callen, and then Shawn & Gus. All of them will bring the fun and the fire … if they get a chance to do so.

You can see the full bracket (including start dates for each individual round) in the graphic at the top of this article.

The competitors

Steve & Danny, Hawaii Five-0 (#1 seed) – After two straight years of being the runner-up in this tournament, 2019 could be the year that changes everything for them. With Steve & Danny you have two of the best TV cops out there, hard-nosed guys who are beyond determined to protect everyone they can. They’ll throw themselves into the line of fire if that means getting justice for those who deserve it! While they are stopping the bad guys, they find a way to have this wonderful sense of humor and a sense of love and camaraderie. They really are the example for what every cop partnership should be in 2019 — at least if you want to watch entertaining people do entertaining things.

Steve & Danny are entering round 2 with a ton of momentum after a big, blowout victory in the opening battle … but there’s some tougher competition coming their way now. Are they ready to rise to the occasion?

Halstead & Upton, Chicago PD (#5 seed) – The round 1 victory against Bobby & Athena from 911 was not an easy one — those two have their fans and they came out hard! Yet, Jay and Hailey’s support base was just a little bit stronger and that leaves them roaring into round 2 ready to topple a goliath. These are characters as fiercely supportive of each other as you’re going to find — they’ve both battled through demons and there’s this powerful connection there that you can’t find or feel elsewhere. It’s so deep that viewers want to see more for the two of them. Whether or not it actually happens is firmly up to the writers.

For now, we’re just curious to see how Upton and Halstead handle their underdog status. While they entered this competition as a #5 seed, beating a #4 seed isn’t a huge shock. Taking down Steve & Danny, however, would be.
