Sara Gilbert leaving The Talk; why did she make this decision?

Aisha Tyler leaving

Today on The Talkshow host Sara Gilbert made an announcement that is currently sending some shockwaves through the daytime world. At the end of this season, we’re going to see her saying goodbye to the show. Gilbert is one of the original architects for this show on CBS, and she’s been both a longtime panelist and a stable presence.

So why leave? Well, a lot of that has to do with her starting to see her life expand in some other interesting ways. She’s now an executive producer on The Conners, in addition to being one of its primary stars. Her schedule is so much fuller than ever before, but it does feel like the series will go on without her.

Per TVLine, here is just a small piece of what Gilbert had to say regarding her eventual departure from the show:

“This is something that I have been struggling with for a while, and going back and forth, but I’ve decided that it’s time for me to leave the show at the end of this season … I obviously love it here, and like I said, this was extremely difficult. Last season, I did The Conners and was also producing and [hosted] here. I loved it and felt totally empowered, but also, if I’m being honest about it, my life was slightly out of balance. I wasn’t able to spend as much time with my three kids as I’d like, or take time for myself.

“As I’ve continued on, I’m starting to develop more things to produce, and I’m having opportunities to act. I don’t know how I’m going to do it all. I’m looking at the next six months and thinking, ‘There’s not time.’ … It’s difficult because this is a place that I love and a place that I’m extremely happy. I love the hosts, I love the crew, I love our staff, I’m so grateful to the audience for letting me in your homes every day. It’s been such an honor.”

The audience was clearly emotional as a result of the big announcement coming out, and that is a real testament to what Gilbert and The Talk have built over time. You want people to be sad to see you go since it symbolizes the journey that you’ve been on for all of these years. It shows that you matter and that people have adored going on this journey with you, through thick and through thin. Sharon Osbourne is now going to be solely the longest-tenured person with Sara gone from the show, and we’ll have to wait and see who will take some of the reigns from Sara when she’s gone. There are already some viable co-host contenders for the show’s rotating panel of guests, but they could also bring someone else in. With Gilbert’s departure not happening for some time still, there is time for The Talk to figure this out.
