Is The Walking Dead new tonight? Norman Reedus’ staying power

Walking Dead

Is The Walking Dead new tonight? We’re entering a new era of this show once more, and following last week’s wintry journey, we’re certainly intrigued to see how this show evolves once more.

Unfortunately, being intrigued is apparently going to have to be enough in order to keep us satisfied from now until we make it to the other side of the summer. Last week was the finale, which means that we’ve made it to a dramatic endpoint for the next several months and will only have conventions and fan discussion to tide us over. The bad news is no more episode for a long while, though we suppose the good news is that they can’t kill off anyone else when there are no more episodes coming on the air…

While we know that this is a show with a near-constant mantra of “nobody is safe,” there’s one person who seems locked in for the future. Norman Reedus may be the #1 person The Walking Dead as a franchise cannot lose, but luckily it seems like he’s in agreement on this subject. He also has no interest in ever leaving, which coincides quite brilliantly with that significant pay raise he’s getting now that he is the marquee star with Andrew Lincoln gone and with Danai Gurira’s role being reduced next season.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Reedus made it pretty clear that if the producers were to write him out, the resulting scene would look like something that you’d actually find within a signature close-to-the-end-of-a-season episode of this show:

“I don’t want to go anywhere. I’ll burn down that whole studio if they got rid of me … I always said I wanted to just walk off into the sunset with a dog, but now so many people are doing that, that I don’t know. I don’t know how I’d want to die. I don’t want to die ever, so I don’t want to put it out there. I don’t want to give anyone any ideas.”

Clearly, Norman is a smart man! If he doesn’t give anyone a reason to potentially kill him off, doesn’t that make him safe and therefore immune from any sort of killing? If this idea doesn’t work, the only other suggestion that we can offer is that he put himself in bubble wrap for every future episode shoot, just in case the writers are even inspired to come up with any idea while they’re watching him work on set. If not bubble-wrap, can someone get Daryl a suit of armor? Maybe he can find in on a supply run since we know there will always be more of that.
