SVU (Benson & Rollins) vs. Magnum PI (Magnum & Higgins) – Crime Dynamic Duos 2019
For this particular battle, we’ve got an interesting showdown between one of the most stable duos in all of television in Benson & Rollins from Law & Order: SVU and then also a new crime-fighting pair in Magnum & Higgins from Magnum PI. These two pairs are successful for many different reasons, but we think that both are solid representatives that in order to take down the bad guys, you need more than just skill — you need to have a great relationship backing it up.
If you’ve been around for past editions of Crime Dynamic Duos, then you know a thing or two about how this works — at the bottom of this article is a poll to vote for who you want to see advance! One duo will, and at the end of the month, we’ll officially crown the champion in all of their glory.

We will keep this poll open until Monday, April 15 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. The winner here is going to take on either Emily & Nick from Absentia or Liz & Ressler from The Blacklist. There are many a great duo in the tournament this year, and we’re going to have a great one moving forward regardless.

The competitors
Benson & Rollins, Law & Order: SVU (#2 seed) – When you think about crime-fighting duos within the world of SVU, there have been a lot of exceptional ones over the years. There are times where these two are not even much of a duo at all, given that Benson technically outranks her and there are only so many opportunities for them to work together in order to properly get the job done out in the field.
That being said when Benson & Rollins are together, what we see from them are characters who showcase a wonderful chemistry encompassing everything that you would want to see from them — think in terms of the perfect amount of empathy and heart, but also with the right mixture of toughness. They’ve been at this gig for so long now that they understand the proper buttons to push and then the perfect times in which to push them. They can’t win every case, but Benson and Rollins certainly put forth the best effort time and time again.
Magnum & Higgins, Magnum PI (#7 seed) – These two characters are newcomers to the tournament this year, but we like to think that they’ve made an enormous splash across the TV landscape this year. They’ve solved many cases in Hawaii together while laughing and/or bickering every single step of the way.
What makes a great duo like this? Given the tone of this show, it’s great that these are two characters with a fantastic sense of humor … but also two characters who aren’t afraid to put themselves on the line. We think that in the episode “Blood in the Water” (where the two characters found themselves stranded in the middle of the ocean) is a perfect example of character development for these two bonding them in a way they hadn’t been before. It showed their determination, their thirst for survival, and how much they would sacrifice for the sake of ensuring each other’s safety. It was a powerful episode that brought us a powerful bond.
