After a long hiatus, The Durrells season 4 episode 1 is set to arrive on ITV tomorrow evening! This hour is your reintroduction to this loving, wacky family, complete with their animals and, of course, complete with more adventures. This is the beginning of the final season, and we’re going to have that on our mind while we’re watching. Yet, for the characters, this is just the beginning of yet another chapter, a phase in their lives as they try to make heads or tails of where they are at the moment in the great island of Corfu.
To better offer you up a sense of what’s coming, at least in terms of the story, we highly suggest that you take a look at the official Durrells season 4 episode 1 synopsis right away:
As the new series begins, Louisa has opened the doors of the villa as a boarding house and Basil and two Australian dancers have become official guests. To save money, the girls instantly move into Larry’s room – much to his delight – but it’s soon clear that Basil has become the most pernickety guest ever. The family warm to mysterious new guest Lazaros Vangelatos, until Theo reveals he is a wanted man. Knowing he is being framed for his actions, the Durrells strive to help Vangalotos escape the island.
Meanwhile, Gerry acquires a new pet in the form of Ulysses the owl and proclaims he is going to open a zoo and feeling she needs more from her life, Margo embarks on a new project to work as a hairdresser.
What part of this story will prove to be the most entertaining? for the sake of having a good time, let’s going ahead and rank our personal top three.
3. Gerry trying to start a zoo. You know that this isn’t going to work well, mostly because Gerry does not seem to properly realize that he’s been living in a zoo from the very start of this series. How is he going to make anything stand out?
2. Watching how this boarding house works. Of course, it makes sense for Louisa to go into the hospitality business! Just given how many people seem to randomly crash at her place, we think it ABSOLUTELY makes sense to try to make money off of them. Yet, it’s probably going to be so much harder than anyone would’ve ever realized upon embarking on this business.
1. The family orchestrating a prison break. Okay, maybe it’s not actually a prison break, but when it comes to this Lazaros character we’re envisioning some sort of Mission: Impossible or Shawshank Redemption sort of scenario going down in our head. Even though Corfu may appear rather beautiful to us on the surface — i.e. the sort of place nobody should ever want to leave — it may feel a little bit different for some of the people actually staying there.
