Will & Grace season 11 premiere date hopes on NBC
Let’s start things off here with this — there is a season 11 coming for the show on NBC! This was actually first decided by the network over a year ago, and it’s something that has probably served as a nice way for the cast and crew to just relax and enjoy the ride this time around. There’s never been all that much in the way of pressure, and almost certainly, that benefits the creative for a show that relies mostly on laughter and finding some new ways to shake up the creative game beyond what it’s already done for the better part of the past decade.
Now, let’s get to the next all-important question: When the next new season of Will & Grace could actually premiere. Since its big return to NBC after the long hiatus, they’ve been comfortable airing it on Thursday nights in the fall. It’s hard to imagine that changing. This is where the series has flourished and, because of that, this is where we consider it sticking around.
What we’re perhaps curious about beyond the premiere date is this: Will season 11 be the final chapter of this revival? Despite how many people may love this show, it doesn’t change the fact that it only averaged a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic for season 10, which is down close to 50% from the season before. That’s not the sort of thing that inspires great confidence in the future, and it’s also somewhat indicative of revivals in general. One of the things that we’ve really come to see with a lot of these over times is that they will get off to a hot start, networks will get excited, but then after a year or so, most viewers feel like they have their fill. That’s why when it comes to a lot of revivals now moving forward, we wonder if one of the better recourses is to simply figure out a way in which to do limited series, or events that air once every few seasons as opposed to every single time.
Ultimately, though, some of these issues when it comes to the ratings can be thought about more in the fall — or even later, if NBC wants to hold back on season 11 for a while. With the numbers being what they are, there probably is a case for them making this more of a midseason show and trying out some different programs that they perceive to have better overall ceilings. Will & Grace could get its numbers back up there, but it would probably need some buzzworthy event that got people talking once again.
