Outlander season 5: The first read-through is here!
In a new post on Instagram (which we have for you to see below), Sophie Skelton confirmed that the long-awaited moment is happening over at the show’s production base in Scotland. (We’ve also got a cool image featuring Caitriona Balfe, as well.) There’s been speculation that we’ve been gearing up for this moment for a long time now, with many cast members (including Skelton, Sam Heughan, and Caitriona Balfe) making their journey back to the greater Cumbernauld area where the show’s interior production takes place. Now, we can all do a little happy-dance, rejoicing in the fact that we’re close now to seeing everything gear up as it often does. Think in terms of the cast being out on location, of us getting fun little teasers, or if nothing else, us getting a chance to hear about some of the amusing banter between the co-stars that we live for.

One obvious thing that we have to be aware of at the moment is that Outlander is going to keep most things hidden in a vault — nobody’s going to be sharing any photos or teases that constitute a huge spoiler. We do wonder if things could be a little less secret for season 5 (in season 4, everyone had to be super-protective of the Murtagh reveal), but we don’t really see it changing all that much. The folks over at Sony and Starz covet all of their show-only fans who go into each season bright-eyed and with little idea as to what’s going to happen next. There are also some changes from the books to the show that the Outlander team probably don’t want getting out in advance.
While we know that there’s been some work going on in regards to Outlander season 5 for some time now, we consider this table read to be a turning of the page, a huge moment commemorating that this show that we know and love is now getting back to doing much of what it does best. This well-oiled machine is going to keep churning and working towards getting in front of that camera, which is a cause of great celebration given that it’ll bring us that much closer to the show coming back on the air. We’re still not expecting it anytime in the immediate future — the earliest we foresee it coming together is 2020, unless someone develops a keen technique that gets episodes edited, scored, and put together immediately after they’re all done filming. Miracles can happen … but we don’t think this one will.
