Psych: The Movie 2 production is officially underway!
In a new post on Twitter (see below), cast member Dule Hill shared one of the first images of his and James Roday’s trailers, which is as good of a sign as any that there are about to be some hijinks afoot! Production on the movie won’t last for an extremely long period of time, but it will be enough to give you another two or so hours of fun. The story for Psych: The Movie 2 will be based substantially more on Timothy Omundson’s Lassiter, who finds himself in recovery after being left for dead after being ambushed on the job. While in a recovery clinic he starts to see all sorts of strange things around him, which leads eventually to Shawn and Gus getting on the case and back in their old Santa Barbara stomping grounds!
The second movie is probably going to feel so much closer to the original Psych than the first movie did, both in terms of the overall setting and then also getting to see more of the original cast. Due to complications from a stroke, Omundson was limited to a small cameo in the first film — hence, why there was such a desire to see a whole lot more of him the second time around.
We don’t think that Psych: The Movie 2 really has to do anything too special to separate itself from the rest of the pack. This is a show whose success these days is based on nostalgia, and tapping into some of the pure elements that made so many people love the original show in the first place — the constant humor, the antics, and the little references to pineapples and funny undercover nicknames. While of course you do want to see these characters move forward into the next era of their lives, you don’t want them to lose an essence of what originally made them great. It’s that enthusiasm and energy that they have for life, and even if much of the show’s premise revolves around Shawn lying to people about abilities he doesn’t have, it never feels malicious. He gets the job done and for those looking for justice, maybe that is all that matters.
Don’t spend too much time scouring the internet at the moment for a Psych: The Movie 2 premiere date. There isn’t one out there at present, but we imagine more news on the subject will be released in the months ahead.
