‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 4 official as ABC Family renews series

In what may end up being the least-surprising news that we report all day long, it looks as though ABC Family has decided that they want a little bit more of “Pretty Little Liars.”

This release confirms that there have been an additional 24 episodes coming up for the show beginning in the summer of 2013, and that the main stars in Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, Shay Mitchell, and Ashley Benson are all supposedly on board. This move comes just two and a half weeks away from the show’s annual Halloween episode, and three months before it will be back for the second half of season 3.

But should season 4 really going to be the end of the series? There have been rumors in the past about the show only lasting four years, and personally, it seems best if this is where it is ultimately cut off. We don’t want to see the mystery go on for so long that the show ends up becoming repetitive and a shell of its former self, and this would also give it enough episodes so that it could go into syndication elsewhere if Alloy Entertainment really wanted it to be so. With this being said, we would not be opposed to some sort of spin-off series going beyond this that focuses on some sort of other mystery beyond just “A,” or with part of the “A” element included. We just don’t think Aria, Hanna, Spencer, and Emily should spend the rest of their lives trying to find out who killed Alison.

Even though a fourth season was pretty much a foregone conclusion, are you still happy that the news is official? Plus, do you think that this should be the final year for the show?
