Riverdale season 3 episode 17 preview: The raid on the farm

Riverdale season 3 episode 2

Tonight, Riverdale is understandably shifting a lot of their focus over to the Heathers musical, and why wouldn’t they? In between the ambition of the event, the costumes, and the overall glitz and glamour, why wouldn’t they put the biggest spotlight on it possible? This is a show with a 22-episode season, and typically 22 episodes is code for “don’t hurry stuff along — we got plenty of time left!”. That’s why we’ve still got the storyline with The Farm, but it’s also why the show’s going to devote such a meaty chunk of the next new episode to this very thing.

Prepare for a mission, prepare for some drama, and prepare to someone possibly getting hurt — it’s kind of the Riverdale staple. For such a peaceful town in the Archie comics, someone’s almost always getting either hurt or arrested or mentally traumatized in this place … and we don’t see a feasible end date to that in sight. (The best date we can offer is “whenever the series finale is.”)

Want a few more details all about what’s coming up? Below, CarterMatt offers up the official Riverdale season 3 episode 17 synopsis below:

THE RAID – As Betty (Lili Reinhart) enlists Cheryl’s (Madelaine Petsch) help to infiltrate The Farm, Archie (KJ Apa) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) help an ally from his past. Meanwhile, Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) attempt to put a stop to Riverdale’s drug trade puts him on a collision course with Gladys (guest star Gina Gershon). Finally, Hiram (Mark Consuelos) breaks some surprising news to Veronica. Marisol Nichols, Madchen Amick, Skeet Ulrich and Casey Cott also star. Pamela Romanowsky directed the episode written by Greg Murray & Ace Hasan (#317). Original airdate 3/27/2019.

This episode is designed almost in a writing lab with a few simple goals, starting with delivering as many shocks as possible. Riverdale wants to end this season with a bang, and this could be an episode that determines whether or not The Farm is a story that, in the long-term, actually sticks. When it comes to Jughead, we wish him the best of luck … but we have a hard time figuring out just how in the world he plans on going it alone.

As for everything else in this episode?

What can Hiram really do in order to surprise Veronica at this point? What else can this guy really do? Riverdale is not the sort of show that has defined heroes and villains a la your typical comic-book superhero show, but Hiram’s the sort of character who is very close to being worthy of a supervillain mask and a costume. The dude’s done some dastardly stuff and while we understand he’s family, there is that breaking point where any bond you may have is suddenly snapped in two and you’re left with almost nothing. At this point, we’re inching ever closer to that point.
