The Orville season 2 episode 11 video: Leighton Meester performs!
1. She’s got some sort of connection to Gordon – That’s the implication that is out there from some other promos, which make us believe that he believes there’s something long-lasting about this relationship.
2. The connection may or may not be real – When Gordon brings up Laura to some members of the show, they look at him almost as though he’s speaking of some alien race they’ve never heard of before. Has Laura played some trick on Gordon’s head, where he has some long-lasting girlfriend and can live within that fantasy? Or, is this a trick that Gordon is willingly playing on himself? These two ideas are certainly within this show’s possible orbit.
3. Apparently, Laura can sing – The video preview for this episode below (courtesy of TVLine) is actually just an extended performance from Meester as the character. It’s rather lovely and personal … but what do you make of it beyond just the talent? How this applies to the story, and to Gordon, is what we gotta figure out. Maybe this is what draws the two together, or this song has some element of siren to it. Gordon hears it, he falls for her, and he loses his grasp on reality.

We’ve figured out that The Orville is no stranger to the love-story-that-eventually-falls-apart storyline. We just went through it with Talla earlier this season, and while Isaac may be back, we’re not sure that things between her and Dr. Finn are anywhere close to what they were. We’ve veered a little away from the Kaylon since the big “Identity” storyline, which is probably an intentional move so that the writers can highlight other stuff on the ship. We’ll circle back to that soon enough though…
For “Lasting Impressions,” be prepared for a story of love — or, at least a story that feels like love. It’s also going to be one of nostalgia, since a time capsule from 2015 is going to be a big piece to the puzzle. It’s all-systems-go as we prepare for what may be yet another The Orville classic, an episode we’re left to think about for some time. With us entering the home stretch of this season, we may be doing a little more pondering than usual. Rest assured: We’re absolutely pondering when Fox is going to do the right thing and renew one of their best overall shows! What better showcase of imagination, storytelling, and adventure do they have?
