Absentia season 2 US premiere date revealed by Amazon; see teaser
To all the Absentia fans out there – we more than understand that this has been a long, tough wait for news on the show’s return to Amazon Prime. It’s been more than a year since its season 1 launch and if you’re like us, there is a good chance that you blew through those episodes over a few short days. You get so invested and into the story that once you start, it’s almost impossible to stop.
Today, Amazon is finally throwing us a bone, and giving us the sort of season 2 news that we absolutely welcome. Today, it was officially confirmed that on June 14, you will see the Stana Katic series back with its latest round of ten episodes. They also released an official teaser (which you can see below) a lot of the footage you’ve already seen before from AXN promos (if you’re the sort who scours the internet), but we’re never gonna be mad about Amazon doing what they can to promote the show. Giving it three months of promo lead-up is great since there’s a lot of room to work in there … we just hope that they take advantage of the time that they’ve got and give the show a serious push.

So why is Absentia season 2 premiering so much later in the US than in some other territories? The simplest answer we can offer is that Amazon does things a tad differently. Because it gives you all the episodes at once, Sony’s giving the show an opportunity to air things out in some other territories first. Some countries are getting Absentia in March; meanwhile, Canada’s going to be getting it in April. The scaled launch of the show can be a tad confusing, but here’s your reminder to support your local broadcaster! That’s the best way to further ensure that Absentia gets the optimal ratings it deserves, and also comes back for a third season.
What’s the story this time around?
Katic returns as the intrepid Emily Byrne, a woman still working to emerge from the other side of the tremendous trauma she just endured. Moving into season 2, new obstacles present themselves as elements of her past become tied in to an investigation in some rather-shocking ways. Many cast members from season 1, including Cara Theobold, Patrick Heusinger, Neil Jackson, and others, will also be back for more.
If for whatever crazy reason you haven’t checked out Absentia yet, now’s your time! This is an action-packed thriller like no other on TV and it will get your heart racing and your mind pondering over some of the depravity of this world. This show looks at the darker ends of society; we’d almost describe it as Blindspot meets Luther rolled into one fantastic package that still feels very much its own.
