Wynonna Earp season 4 campaign: Melanie Scrofano, Emily Andras create own billboard

Wynonna Earp season 3 premiere

We’ve certainly seen billboards created in New York and Los Angeles by fans in order to save their shows. Yet, what we’re talking about today is a little bit different in the context of Wynonna Earp.

If you’re a regular CarterMatt reader, there’s a good chance that you know about the show’s difficult state of season 4 being in limbo. (If you haven’t for some reason, we discuss all the factors at play in the video below — subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube so you don’t miss future updates!)

While Syfy technically has renewals for two more seasons, financial matters within the world of IDW seem to be limiting the show’s capacity to start production. This is beyond frustrating to everyone involved and extremely rare. We can’t think of all that many instances in which a show has a green light, only for some business-related matters to throw up a red light right before filming actually gets underway.

In the tweet below, all of the news in the last paragraph is unquestionably bad, but the goal within this article is to not have this story by overtly negative. Instead, let’s talk about what Wynonna Earp star Melanie Scrofano and executive producer Emily Andras recently did in honor of many of their fans! We’ve posted already about how fans purchased a Times Square billboard in support of the show; now, Andras and Scrofano created one of their own as a means to say thanks. (Andras commented that the idea was originally Melanie’s.) You can take a glimpse of the billboard below; it’s a beautiful gesture by them and a reminder that the folks behind the scenes care just as much about this story as everyone who watches it. Granted, you may have known already how much they love it due to the live-tweeting sessions and the mere fact that these people film in the freezing cold in Alberta. Seriously, the cast and crew of Wynonna Earp are as hardcore as they come.

So will these billboards encourage IDW, Syfy, or anyone else involved to make a move soon? We consider it added incentive, but we stand by what we’ve said through most of this process. We’d love for there to be an announcement at warp speed that Wynonna Earp has sorted out its problems, but that’s probably not going to be the case. Financial and legal matters take time to sort out since you’ve got to deal with accountants, lawyers, and the like — these aren’t the sort of people who will rush into anything. That’ll cause more problems down the road.

We remain optimistic that a season 4 will work itself out, especially since that renewal is already out there and so many cast and crew members were counting on the work. It’s a little different than an outright cancellation, where you had to renegotiate with everyone on the other side and are really just crossing your fingers that people want to come back. We haven’t quite seen a situation like this play out before, but we know Wynonna Earp and we certainly know the passion of these fans and the folks involved. Let’s hope for some good news over the next several weeks!

How are you feeling right now about a Wynonna Earp season 4?

If nothing else, are you feeling the massive love from Melanie and Emily right now? Be sure to share in the comments. (Photo: Syfy.)
