New Amsterdam episode 16 preview: Prepare for the blizzard
One of the things that we’ve come to know about Mr. Max Goodwin is that he inspires a fighting spirit within everyone he works with. That means everyone from the doctors to the nurses to the custodial staff. They’re all in this together — one team with one specific common goal of trying to make everyone okay. Max takes input, but he also demands a lot. He pushes people to be their best … but could he be pushing everyone a little too far coming up? It’s certainly a novel thought.

03/12/2019 (10:01PM – 11:00PM) (Tuesday) : When a history-making blizzard hits New York, Max (Ryan Eggold) and his staff must work together to keep their patients safe with little resources, even if it means taking to the streets of the city and braving the storm. Also starring Janet Montgomery as Lauren Bloom, Freema Agyeman as Helen Sharpe, Anupam Kher as Vijay Kapoor, Tyler Labine as Iggy Froome and Jocko Sims as Floyd Reynolds. TV-14 D, L, V
Given some of the subzero temperatures that have been out there in New York City as of late, it definitely feels like there have been plenty of opportunities for the production to play with some of that environment. It’s fun in a way to see sheets of snow on television, especially for those who don’t live anywhere close to it. Yet, for the characters themselves, it’s no cause for celebration and enjoyment. Someone could get seriously hurt out there or worse, and this is the part of the story where we remind you, of course, that Max has cancer. This is really the last thing that a guy like him should be doing but yet, here we are, watching him potentially stop at nothing to help other people once more.
Is Max functioning the best when he’s taking on the most?
Yes and no. We saw already this season that he does need to delegate more and be okay with letting things go sometimes. Nonetheless, this is still who he is, and we don’t think that he’s going to slow down and scale away some of his duties as the medical director.
As for what we want to see for some other characters, it would be nice to get some sort of update on Dr. Bloom and how she is doing in the midst of her recovery. At the end of the episode, we saw her starting to open up! We do see that as the first of many positive steps in the right direction that she needs to take.
