We know that we’re in the midst of a long Chicago Fire hiatus — it’s just nice to have actual confirmation as to how long it is going to be so we can start checking off the days on our calendar until it’s return.
In a new post on Twitter (which CarterMatt has for you to see below), the show’s official account confirmed executive producer Derek Haas’ comment that the NBC series will be back on Wednesday, March 27 with new episodes — and what is hopefully going to be another run of them to close out the season. There are six more episodes of the 22-episode order to go and during those, we’re anticipating a lot of surprising twists and turns as we hope to see some relationship (and career) stability at Firehouse 51. We know that Brett’s been going through more heartbreak and the future for Stella and Severide at the moment is still ambiguous; we’re hopeful that there could be good news coming soon for the latter, but the status for Brett is a little more ambiguous right now. After all, the new chaplain was not a part of the regular cast.
Is it possible that following March 27 episode, there could be new episodes for the rest of the season straight through? It’s possible, and it’s based on how NBC wants to schedule all of the upcoming episodes. If Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD all return on this same day (which feels likely, but is not 100% confirmed), the earliest they could conclude is Wednesday, May 1. Given that networks often like to keep shows a little longer into May sweeps, we wouldn’t be shocked if there were a week or two of repeats wedged in there just so that the shows could stick around on the air until May 8 or May 15, which feel like fairly-traditional finale dates. (We should point out that Chicago Fire season 6 wrapped with a two-hour finale the second week in May, which means that a May 8 finale is the likeliest scheduling scenario if they want to keep the trajectory roughly the same.

The best news of all entering the finale…
You don’t have to worry about any series finales down the road! All three shows have already been renewed, which means that we can all sit back, relax, and enjoy the rest of the stories as they are while waiting to see what Haas and the writers conjure up from their chili pot full of stories for season 8. Knowing Chicago Fire, the finale’s probably going to contain something that will leave your jaw hanging on the floor and have you talking for the better part of the summer. Isn’t that the way of things with this show? We especially think that this may be the direction they go in since last season’s finale didn’t have the same sort of crazy cliffhanger other than Dawson’s exit.
