Madam Secretary season 5 episode 16 return date: ‘The New Normal’
Alas, we do also have some rather-bad news in that there is no new episode coming on CBS next week. While there is some worthy programming coming on in its stead in an Aretha Franklin tribute, we understand another hiatus being frustrating to Madam Secretary fans. It has become very hard as of late in order to known when the show is on the air and when it’s not. There was no episode, for example, on CBS last week because of the Oscars. There was one, however, the week before, and the week before that, it was off the air because of the Grammys. This show has jumped on and off the schedule like its standing on hot coals and cannot stay in one place for too long.
Madam Secretary will return to the air in two weeks on March 17, and the episode will be entitled “The New Normal.” At the time of this writing, though, there is no information when it comes to what to expect; CBS has yet to release the official synopsis, and hopefully they will do so in the weeks to come.
So what should the next episode be about? If there is one thing that we could pinpoint here as a suggestion, it would be Elizabeth’s Presidential aspirations … which have sputtered a little bit as of late. If the writers want to keep a realistic timeline here to what is going on in the real world, we are at the point where the majority of 2020 candidates are already out there in the field. Maybe you can make the argument that Elizabeth is a little bit like Joe Biden, a potential top contender who is just holding out for a while before deciding. In the case of Bess, though, we know that she is running — it’s mostly a matter of when she wants to throw her hat into the ring. It is a moment that should happen by the end of the season if the story wants to remain fairly realistic; that way, a season 6 in the fall (if there is a season 6) could be about the campaign, debates, and also Elizabeth still working to be Secretary of State in the process.
What else do we know about season 5?
There is at least one more episode coming up on March 24 entitled “The Common Defense,” and it is possible that another one is coming on the 31st. Unfortunately, CBS has not confirmed anything as of late there right now. You just have to hope that within these episodes there are opportunities for more buzz and higher ratings — otherwise known as the elements that will get the show greenlit for another season at CBS.
