Shameless season 9 episode 14 (finale) spoilers: Emmy Rossum’s farewell
While Rossum has stated in a recent interview that she could return to the series as Fiona, there is no plan for her to return in the immediate future. We have to consider this her grand farewell — we’re all better off that way, so if she doesn’t ever return we aren’t all heartbroken all over again. There is a bit of irony in saying this though, mostly in that we anticipated going into Cameron Monaghan’s “last episode” last fall that we wouldn’t see him again. Now, it looks like we could see him both in the finale (judging by the promo) and then also full-time in season 10.

Below, CarterMatt offers up the official Shameless season 9 episode 14 synopsis, which has some additional news as to what’s coming up:
As the Gallaghers decide what to do with a bedridden Frank, Fiona has to make a decision about her future; Carl and Debbie share their heartbreak together; Lip has to deal with a distressed Tami.
What we know about where Fiona is entering the finale is simply this: She’s got money coming her way from Max. Because of this, she actually has an opportunity to tie up loose ends in her life, resolve the assault case against her, and then high-tail it out of Chicago once and for all. Nothing would be better for her — it’s pretty clear at this point that this place is toxic for her and she needs a new environment. She can have a fresh start, make new friends, and hopefully be in a position where she can stay clean and avoid some of the pitfalls she’s had in the Windy City.
As for some of the other stories within the finale…
We feel for Carl, Lip, and Debbie, who are suddenly going to find themselves in a position where they are stuck caring with Frank — probably the last person they really want to deal with. He gives them nothing; why would they want to give him anything in turn? He’s just a drunk and a freeloader who will take advantage of his kids the moment that they give him an inch.
When it comes to Tami and Lip, they are going to figure out how to handle the result of Tami’s recent test for a cancer gene — the pregnancy is important, but so is this other part of her life. This is about her future, and whether or not she would even be there in order to be a good mother down the line.
Given that Shameless already has a season 10 on tap, there’s no pressure to resolve any of these non-Fiona stories. Because of that, be prepared for a lot of Rossum in this final chapter as she says our goodbyes.
