Law & Order: SVU season 20 episode 17 return date hopes
We should commence this article by sharing some most-regrettable news — following the landmark 450th episode tonight, an achievement that is very high on the list of TV milestones, you will have to wait a while to witness some of what lies ahead. There is no new installment next week. Moreover, there is also no new installment the week after. The earliest that SVU may return with new episodes is when we come around to Thursday, March 14. (Update: This is now 100% confirmed.)
Now, let us spend a moment or two posing another big question: Could the series get to episode #500? We’re at a point now in the show’s exceptional run where it doesn’t have anything left to prove. More than likely, SVU is going to be renewed for a season 21, which moves it past the original for the longest-running scripted primetime series of all time … at least in terms of seasons. SVU would need to make it to a 22nd season in order to make it past the 500-episode threshold and, at least for now, that feels possible.
Here’s another fascinating way in which to look at things: Even in the event that SVU doesn’t get the 500th episode within a couple of years, this feels like the sort of show that will always be prime for a revival. We do think the odds are high that it will get there; so long as the ratings stay steady and the cast, most notably, Mariska Hargitay stay interested, there is no specific reason for concern in the immediate future.
What lies ahead
The promo below for episode 20×17 signals that a kidnapping will be at the forefront of whatever is coming up, and beyond just that a mystery of a child’s bones buried outside of someone’s home. What is going on here? Think a horrifying secret and something that Benson and the remainder of the SVU team will be forced to uncover. This is another painful mystery that will put the team through its paces and leave them questioning who could be responsible … let alone also why.
