The Haunting of Hill House renewed for season 2, will have new setting

The Haunting of Hill House

While there’s been a lot of bad news when it comes to the future of several Netflix programs, that’s not the case for The Haunting of Hill House.

Today, the streaming program officially confirmed that the series is going to be coming back for the second season, albeit in a very different way. The plan is to make this show more of an anthology, and with that every season is going to be in a new setting and with some different characters.

The Haunting of Hill House perfectly represents the current movement in the horror genre. If you think back to maybe five or more years ago, a lot of the genre was based mostly on gore or torture — think in terms of the Saw movies. Yet, we’re now more at a point where horror is based a little bit more on mystery, on the supernatural, and on psychological terror. This is a show that wants to make you afraid (and it does!), but also wants to make you think. It’s still character-driven in its own way, mostly since they want viewers to care about the people at the center of the danger and this show does a wonderful job of getting us invested in them.

Netflix did make you wait a while in order to hear about the renewal for the show, but there was never that much doubt as to whether or not it would come back. The reviews for the show gave high praise and more than that, the buzz was there from the viewers who watched and enjoyed it. While Netflix has canceled a number of shows over the past year, the majority of them (other than the Marvel series, which is a bit of a maddening situation of its own) are series that aren’t getting anywhere near the social-media attention that The Haunting of Hill House has. We definitely do think that this matters and it’s something that the streaming provider will continue to look at as a factor. They want to know that their shows are being watched, and then also that viewers will continue to find them (if you want to know more about how Netflix ratings work check out our video below and subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube). The latter is so important because Netflix has so many shows and it’s not altogether hard for some of them to get totally lost in the ether.

Given that this renewal was just announced today, we’d say to exercise patience while waiting for the series to come back on the air.
